Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
In order for the Truth of God’s Word to become profitable in our lives, it must be mixed with faith.
Hearing it, we must believe it, and act upon it in faith.
Someone has said, “We really only believe that which moves us to action.”
When faced with the initial opportunity to enter the Land of Canaan, the Israelites did not believe the good news Joshua and Caleb presented. Therefore they did not get to enter. The Word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Many in Paul’s day were rejecting the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and as a result could not enter into the rest of salvation in Christ. The word preached was not profiting them, because they were not mixing it with faith.
In His Word, God offers us rest in Christ and many additional blessings; but it does not profit us, unless we mix the promises of His Word with faith in our lives. Each of us must believe and act upon the preaching of God’s Word, if we are to experience the blessings that go along with it.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
God offers you the eternal rest of salvation through what Jesus Christ did for you in His life, death, and resurrection. But you will only be profited by it if you personally call upon the Lord to save you.
Acting upon the promise in belief is mixing the word preached with faith, making it profitable.
Romans 10:12,13 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Let God’s Word profit your life by mixing it with faith in a practical way: first trusting Him to save you, and then trusting Him by applying the teachings of His Word. God’s Word, the Bible, will profit you when Mixed with Faith.
